The protection bulwark bulky Paladin
First of all, I’m from a non english speaking country so any spelling mistakes are because of that.
WARNING: My Paladin is still on lvl 66 so THIS BUILD WILL BE UPDATED AS I LEVEL UP. As with the new module the old dungeons were removed, I still need some dungeon experience and that will be done only after level 70.
Buuut, as for leveling up in both new and old areas, I’m pretty happy with my Paladin as he still hasn’t died yet. I’m not even using potions, my inventory still has some low lvl potions, lol. I’m also able to complete heroic encounters by myself easily. Anyway, here we go.
The best picks are Dragonborn and Human. I went with Human mostly for visual preferences (I love customizing hair and stuff haha). Also, Humans can have more heroic points and have the Versatile Defense ability.
Paladin’s ability scores are Constitution as main and Wisdom and Charisma as Secondary. Constitution gived more HP and damage resistance, Wisdom gives heaing bonus and crit chance and Charisma gives AP gain, stamina regen, combat advantage bonus and companion benefit. BUT, if you see the other abilities, you’ll see that Dexterity is also important for this build, as it gives AOE damage resistance and deflection chance so get it. Remember I’m still on lvl 65 so more points will still be added.
I’m finishing Reclamation Rock at the moment and when i leveled up my Hunter Ranger (and even my Cleric) and I died A LOT. But not with my Paladin. I’m soloing enconters like Press Gang easily, not even using potions, since my defense (and also dps) are pretty good. Here are the powers I use for soloing
That would be Oath of Protection
Templar’s Wrath – Deals damage and gives you temporary HP
Smite – Deals damage, burns taget and sorounding enemies and also makes them deal less damage
Relentless Avenger – Deals a lot of damage and has ranged properties, making you rush to the target, making foes around them fly back. Please note that this one is a high level power (you get it on lvl 60). Before I reached lvl 60 I used…
Sacred Weapon – Deals radiant damage to foes and builds aggro to yourself.
Aura of Protection – 5% more damage on rank 1, 12.5% on rank 4. Never leaves my tray
Aura of Radiance – Deals damage to foes around you every 3 sec and gives you threat. Also a high lvl power, before I used…
Aura of Truth – Foes deal 5% less damage (12.5% on rank 4)
Divine Judgement – Deals massive damage to foes, especially if they are alone. If not, the damage will be divided, which causes it to be way less effective. I recomend that you first use Relentless Avenger and then this power if you want the damage to be in only one foe (like in heroic enconters).
Heroism – Gives you temporary HP, damage resistance and immunity to CC.
Those are solo only powers, if you annalise the Paladin’s powers you can see that the best ones for group buffing and tanking are
Divine Protector – Shields allies and take all the damage they’d recieve. You absorb most of this damage.
Shield of Faith – Reduces damage and increases the incoming healing
Shielding Strike – On the 3rd strike gives you a shield that absorbs damage. Stacks 3 times
Radiant Strike – Run to foe, dealing damage and giving you Radiance. Radiance increases your Armor Penetration and Damage for 15 sec
Im gonna put both and image and a link to NW Calculator, since it’s lacking some info. Also, my feat tree is incomplete since I still need to lvl up
And the link to nw calculator
Note that on the calculator the Light tree is still with some problems, putting Warlock description in the second feat. That feat is actually called Warrior’s Bastion and gives you 10% (on rank 5) of defense from equipment. Also, the bulwark tree doesn’t show the description for the second feat either, but it’s called Stand Fast. It gives you damage resistance and deflection chance when you’re not moving.
Keep and eye for your Vigilant stacks and know the right time to use your Divine Call (when it reaches 5 stachs and shows the Fully Stacked message onscreen)
I usualy start with Templar’s Wrath to give me the temp HP, then Relentless Avenger to clear annoying mobs, then Smite on the remaining mob. With the feats combined with your powers you’ll probably give a lot of damage and still have high surviving. Always take the benefit from the 3rd strike of Shielding Strike.
For soloing I rarely use dailies other than Divine Judgment.
I’ve been using the Wayward Wizard and it’s been doing surprisingly well and I like their Slow ability. After 70 I’m thinking about getting an Ioun Stone or a Dancing Shiled. Or maybe some other thing, I’ll still search about that.
Sigil of the Devoted is awesome since it gives you increased AP gain. I’ll try the Sigil of the Oathbound Paladin on dungeons
Feel free to coment and give your opinion. Remember this build will be updated as my character grows. It’s also my first melee character as well as a new class so there are things we all still have to try
I hope this helps, see you 🙂
